'Cheap Eats Manila: Ukkokei Japan Ramen by Menzo Maginhawa Street Quezon City. Ukkokei Japan was first opened on October 7, 2015 at the SM Megamall by Japanese Master Chef Yasuhiko Funatsu who has a pedigree of15 ramen houses in Japan. In Manila there are two ramen houses that were franchised from him, Ukkokei Ramen Ron on Arnaiz Avenue and recently Ramen Daisho on Shaw Boulevard. Ukkokei Japan is Chef Funatsu’s original brand in which he aims to bring his signature tonkotsu broth ramen to the masses. At the original branch which we have featured before we had the cheapest most authentic tonkotsu ramen with imported Japanese noodles air shipped weekly. Best sellers are their Kumamoto Mau Ramen with Garlic Oil and Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen, best paired with their crunchy, meaty and juicy gyoza. The brand seems to have been bought out by Menzo of Japan and their menu has changed a bit. This Maginhawa branch for some reason was not at the same level as their original branch in SM Megamall so we will not be coming back... On this visit we had their Special Chasyu Ajitama Ramen, Black Sesame and Garlic Oil Tsukemen, Gyudon and Karaage.
